TRANSLATION & READING NOTES

READING THE MANGA

The manga is scanned as it appears in the Japanese publication "Shonen Sunday.
That is, it's read from right to left. I generally keep the words in the same
places as they appear in the original.

PARDON MY JAPANESE...

First of all, obviously I'm not a professional translator. I've studied Japanese
and translate this for my own enjoyment, so I just don't forget what I've learned.
(Not that manga is a very good way of "studying the Japanese language" so to
speak, it's fun to read...) That and I like continuing to read and learn more about
the Japanese culture and language.

Anyway, I do take a few minor liberties in translating. I try to keep things as literal
as possible while still trying to flow in natural English (ie. not quite "bookish")
and build on character personalities. There are swear words where the language becomes
so in the original Japanese version. I also find mistranlations and errors in my
translating here and there. Plus there's almost always lines that bowl me over
in regards to what they really mean...

This isn't perfect, but hopefully passable.

CHAPTER 402 GLOSSARY & NOTES

Please refer to the Inuyasha General Glossary for recurring words that remain untranslated.

Inuyasha, Inuyasha, Inuyasha... *FACEPALM!!*

AIN'T DOIN' SO WELL, ARE YA? - (page 10) I believe this line ("dou ni mo fu ga warui na") is more along the lines of "no matter what (he's doing), he can't get the upper hand." Something along those lines. But I needed to get it to say something similar and fit into the speech bubble.

...WHAT'S NEXT? THE ABILITY TO CUT JULLIENED FRIES? - (page 14) XD "He's gone and added a nitro intake to Tessaiga!? OMFG, Inuyasha. What the hell!??" Oh, Sesshoumaru, Sesshoumaru. How do I adore thee. I think he's voicing what a lot of us have been thinking for a while now. And I just love his nonchalant look as he gives that line.

What I wouldn't give to hear Ken Narita deliver that line with perfect, dry sarcasm. Heeheehee.

SIDELINES COMMENTATORS - (all throughout chapter) Man, I just loved Byakuya and Sesshoumaru, basically just standing there on the rooftop, watching the show. XD Time to break out the beers, ey, boys?

*Inuyasha gets slammed with a raimeihou*
BYAKUYA: Oo. Ah. That had to hurt.
SESSHOUMARU: Nah, I beat him up way more than that when he was a kid. Once I dropped him on his head to see if he could bounce like a squeaky ball.
BYAKUYA: Wow. And what happened?
SESSHOUMARU: His head broke the table. I have to admit, that DID sort of impress me.

But you know, for some reason, I found this chapter hilarious in some ways... ^_^
