1. GENERAL WEBSITE-RELATED QUESTIONS

Q: Have you sent in your Inuyasha game/movie reviews to any other websites, becuase I've seen reviews that seem to have been copied and pasted from this website.

A: No. I may make commentary regarding the manga chapters, anime episodes, movies, games, and music on various forums, but any reviews I've written are for this website, and I have only put them online here. So no, I have not (and will not) do a copy-and-paste job of my reviews to Amazon, IGN, fansites (ie. Inuyashaworld.com), or any other website, for that matter.

Q: Why are the archives of the website so small? They used to have the chapters back until 343.

A: I will be slowly re-archiving my manga translations over time, including script translations of older chapters as I get the time to work on them. However, the archives were actually never intended to be complete scanlations, but rather, the script archives of all of the chapters I have translated. Everything from volume 30 and above is still translated, but no, I will very likely NOT be putting them back online, save for a some choice chapters. I will be returning to my original plans to archive the chapters as scripts only. Again, please only treat the chapters I provide on this website as samples.

Please DO NOT ask me to email you or repost previous chapters. As I've said on the manga page, I will not do that. I will be more than happy to send you a script to chapters, but I will not provide the scans.

Q: Can you tell me about (insert Japanese/Inuyasha-related request here)? It's for a school project due tomorrow and I need your help, and it's really important.

A: No, I will not be able to help you with stuff like this. If it's something small and short - which I will have to decide on my own perogative - I might be able to respond. But generally, I'm really not going to be doing anyone's homework for them, and I'm not qualified in any way to be a Japanese language or history teacher. (Surprisingly, yes, I've had several requests like this.)

Q: Can I use your scans on my website, or translate them into my language?

A: NO. First, I have aked in multiple places to use the scans I provide as samples ONLY. So I'll have to say no, please do not host my traslations on your own site, or take my scanlations and redistribute them. The second problem with translation into other languages is that, well, you'll be translating a translation. It's like a xerox of a xerox; you're going to end up even further from the native, original meaning. Probably best NOT to do that. If you use my translations as a guide (and make a script), I have no problem with that. But please do not redistribute the scans.

Q: Do you scan and translate the Inuyasha manga yourself?

A: Yes. The scanning, translation, notes, and other material I create for the manga section of Ear-Tweak is completely done by myself. The manga is, of course, by Rumiko Takahashi, and published in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday.

Q: Why do you only archive the last 8-10 chapters of the manga on the website?

A: Several reasons. I'm not doing this to be a grouch or anything.

One, it costs me money to keep up ths website, particularly my bandwidth. Second is that I do know chapters eventually get licensed for release by various companies. In order to encourage people to buy the tankoubon/graphic novels, I only provide a temporary viewing of the material, and a permanent translation. Please respect the fact that this material is (or will be) under copyright. I pay for all of my material, and if you'd like to keep your own copy of Inuyasha, you should, too. :)

Q: Can you send me... (insert request here)?

A: Usually the request is for chapters I have already archived in the manga section, or other past chapters I have not posted. I'm sorry, but the answer will have to be "NO." I have provided translations, and a few choice scans of chapters that I've already translated. Again, I pay for my material. If you want your own copy of Inuyasha, you should buy it, too. I've provided a list several places where the Inuyasha manga is available. Shonen Sunday and he tankoubon are available at almost any large Japanese bookstore. So please take advantage of that. :)

I also cannot send things like theme songs or other Inuyasha music to everyone who requests it. Many times, you can find the CDs and DVDs available at CD Japan or Amazon Japan. I post the links to these sites on the front page, as "Sources."

Q: Can you host my stuff (fanart, fanfic, etc.) on Ear-Tweak?

A: Again, I'm not doing this to be a grouch, but I really can't provide webspace for anyone. I need to be able to control the content of my website exclusively. However, there are several free/inexpensive website hosts available, you can use those.

Q: Can I link to you?

A: You don't have to ask to link to me. :)

Q: Can I contribute (artwork, translations, etc.) to the website?

A: As much as I appreciate people wanting to "help," part of my personal gain in this website is to do the drawings, translations, and other work myself. :) As such, I do not reprint or reuse anyone else's translations or artwork on my website, unless I have an express reason to.

Also, please don't send me translations that you ripped off of animelyrics.com, or anywhere else. I won't use them, alright? (And yes, oftentimes, I really can tell if lyrics that I'm sent have been directly copied from another source.) I'll translate things like lyrics and other things on my own time.

Q: Why haven't you emailed me back????!!!?!!!122one?

A: Honestly, I can't even promise that I CAN respond to every email that I get, which is why I've made this Q&A page in response to questions I get a lot by email. I get a lot email in a day and can't answer it all right away. Plus with real life, I can be anywhere from a month to two months behind in getting back to my email. But I do appreciate hearing from everyone. Thanks again, and even if I can't answer right away, I do read it all, so I'm not ignoring you at all, it's just that... well... there's only one of me.

Q: Why haven't you updated some sections of the website in so long?

A: Usually this is about the gameblog and the Condensed Yasha. Hehe, sorry, but, again... there's only one of me. I run this entire site completely on my free time and on my own, and I want to keep it that way. It's just my pet project done because I love the series dearly.

Between work, my family, and also upkeeping the most "important" parts of the website (which is, naturally, the manga translations), it's natural that some sections won't see updates as often. I appreciate everyone's interest in everything, though. And trust me, I do intend to keep certain sections updated, but please folks, harping at me won't get me to update things any faster. I do have a real life, y'know.

Q: Are you going to put up things like character profiles, and stuff like that?

A: ...there's already a million and one Inuyasha sites with that kind of information out there. I started to write one, but it quickly became more than I felt was worth the effort. My focus here is on bringing the latest Japanese information about the series, as well as bringing out the latest manga translations as I get them in. That alone takes up a lot of time and energy. Ear-Tweak was actually originally supposed to be purely dedicated to the manga translations only, but grew as more and more fun things started coming my way (like the games).

Q: Are you going to put up English soundclips at all?

A: No. My website is primarily dedicated to the Japanese release of Inuyasha. :P  I keep a few tabs on English releases, and I may put up information about certain dubbed material (like the movies) being released, but other than that, nope.

I am also no longer am able to watch the dubbed version of Inuyasha, anyway.

Q: Can you give me a script for an Inuyasha chapter?

A: If you would like for me to transcribe one or two Inuyasha chapters for you, please contact me with a note on which chapters you would like. Please only ask for a maximum of two chapters at a time. I won't necessarily be able to translate it for you, but I will be more than happy to romanize the dialogue. I will also not provide scans for the chapters that aren't already on the website.

And as a note, please ask nicely, and please be patient. It might take me a while to get back to you. I've got more than enough to do without putting up with rude demands and people telling me that I don't have enough manga translations on the website. Basically, if you don't follow the guidelines and give me a rude request, I'll ignore you.

* UPDATE 8/23/05 *
Q: Why aren't the "double-issue" chapters (ie. "Absorption" - chapter 421) twice as long as regular chapters?

A: "Double-issue" does not mean that the chapter is twice as long. It simply means that the one regular-length chapter is published, and numbered for two weeks instead of one. This way, volumes of Shounen Sunday always corespond with the 52 weeks of the year. For the record, the "first" volume of the Shounen Sunday's publication year is not published in January; it's published in November or December.

Shounen Sunday will publish double-issues for various reasons, such as weeks corresponding to Japanese holidays. There are also arbitrary rest periods (usually one or two) in spring and summer. Becuase we all need breaks sometime, right? :P
